A professional committee has been formed in Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong province, to oversee the development of a world-class "lake + green development zone." This initiative aims to create a sustainable and environmentally conscious area.
The committee comprises 19 expert members and eight corporate members. Their combined expertise and resources will be utilized to advance the construction of the development zone around Wanlyu Lake in Heyuan city.
Lin Keqing, chairman of the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, highlighted that the project leverages Guangdong's unique ecological advantages. He emphasized its role in transitioning economic development towards green practices within the province, a significant global production base. Furthermore, it will contribute to the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area as a model for a beautiful China.
Lin urged the committee to utilize its intellectual capabilities to deepen research and planning, thereby fostering the comprehensive development of the project. He also stressed the importance of leveraging technological advancements to integrate ecological protection with technological innovation. The goal is to showcase China's green and high-quality development through this project.
Wanlyu Lake, the focal point of this development, spans 1,600 square kilometers. Located approximately 200 kilometers from Guangzhou and 180 kilometers from Shenzhen, it is a major scenic area. The lake features a forest area exceeding 1,100 square kilometers and a water area of 370 square kilometers. It also serves as a crucial drinking water source for Shenzhen, Dongguan, and Hong Kong in the eastern part of the Pearl River delta.

Isn't this just a ploy to attract tourism and increase profits instead of genuinely caring for ecology?

This sounds like a cheap marketing stunt to claim they’re green while the world keeps suffering.

Why is there a need for a new development zone when we already have enough environmental issues to deal with?
