Iran, US, and Shifting Alliances in a Volatile Region

Iran's Ambassador to the UN, Amir Saeid Iravani, criticized the US strikes on Iran, calling them a bitter irony. He pointed out that the United States is the only nation to have ever employed nuclear weapons.

Iravani stated that the Iranian military would determine the "timing, nature, and scale" of Iran's "proportionate response" to the attacks. He emphasized that the "unprovoked aggression against Iran has no basis whatsoever and no justification whatsoever."

Russian President Vladimir Putin condemned the US-Israel strikes on Tehran. During a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Moscow, Putin indicated that Russia was attempting to assist the Iranian people.

Following the temporary closure of Qatar's airspace, Iran launched six missiles towards the US Al Udeid Air Base, with explosions reported in Doha. Iran's Tasnim news agency reported that the operation, named 'Annunciation of Victory', targeted US bases in both Iraq and Qatar.

NATO chief Mark Rutte stated that the US strikes on Iran's nuclear sites did not violate international law. He also emphasized that Iran must not develop nuclear weapons.

Israeli emergency services reported casualties from the latest wave of Iranian attacks on southern Israel, with at least three fatalities and eight injuries. These attacks occurred shortly before a ceasefire was scheduled to begin.

Ireland has become the first European country to propose criminalizing imports from illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem. This action is a response to Israel’s ongoing actions in Gaza.
