New weather maps predict a significant temperature increase later this month, with several areas potentially experiencing very warm conditions. The forecast suggests a period of balmy weather, building upon the recent early summer sun and humidity. The data indicates that temperatures could climb into the mid-30s in various regions of Great Britain.
The forecast for June 30th shows much of England with maximum temperatures in the high 20s or low 30s. At least eleven counties are expected to experience temperatures reaching 34C. These include areas in the southeast and south-central regions of England.
The north of England, including areas around Leeds, as well as much of the Midlands and southern England, are also expected to see temperatures close to or above 30C. The southwest of England is predicted to be slightly cooler, with temperatures around 26C. Wales is expected to have top temperatures ranging between 17C and 27C. Further north, temperatures may be slightly cooler, with the mid-20s expected in Newcastle. Scotland is predicted to have top temperatures ranging between 13 and 23C, with Aberdeen potentially experiencing the highest temperatures. Northern Ireland is also expected to be relatively warm, with highs ranging from 17 to 20C.
The Met Office's long-range forecast, covering the period from June 29th to July 23rd, indicates that a "low pressure system" will pass "to the northwest of the UK early in the period," leading to "wetter, windier conditions to the northwest." The forecast suggests drier conditions in the southeast initially, followed by the arrival of wetter weather early in the week. Further low-pressure systems are likely to affect the northwest, bringing wet and windy conditions. The forecast also mentions the possibility of occasional very warm, potentially hot weather, with brief incursions of hotter air from the continent, which could be accompanied by thunderstorms.
