Lady Eliza Spencer, born in 1992, was only five years old when her aunt, Princess Diana, tragically passed away at the age of 36 on August 31, 1997. She has shared the heartbreaking question she posed after learning of the news.
Eliza recounted how her father, Earl Charles Spencer, Diana's brother, informed her and her siblings, including her twin sister, Lady Amelia Spencer, of the devastating event. She described their initial disbelief, stating, "We thought it couldn't be real." In an interview, the 32-year-old revealed that she then asked her father, "But not in real life, Daddy?"
Eliza's comments come amidst speculation of a strained relationship between Charles and his children. The 65-year-old reportedly did not attend the weddings of Lady Kitty and Lady Amelia in 2021 and 2023. Eliza also remembered her aunt fondly, saying, "We were five, but we remember going to the beach with her, and her being a very gentle and kind and sweet figure in our lives." Diana had spent cherished time with her nieces and nephews in South Africa during one of her final family gatherings.
Previously, Charles spoke about the loss of his sister, describing it as "such an amputation." He explained how he would instinctively try to contact Diana after her death, adding, "For years after Diana died, I would think, 'I must ring her and tell her something,' because we shared the same sense of humour.

What a way to exploit a past tragedy. Can we just forget Diana for once?

This story is a reminder that family ties and love endure even through tragedy. Thanks for sharing!

This just feels like a publicity stunt. Focus on the living, not the ghosts of the past.

This is just more royal drama; it’s exhausting and frankly boring at this point.

It’s disappointing to see the family using their history for media attention again.
