The United Kingdom is anticipating a period of exceptionally warm weather towards the end of the month, with weather maps indicating high temperatures across a significant portion of the country. Data suggests that temperatures will surpass 30 degrees Celsius in many areas of the South East, with Kent potentially experiencing highs of 35 degrees Celsius. This heatwave is projected to arrive on June 30th, following a warm weekend across much of Britain.
The Met Office's long-range forecast anticipates a shift in weather patterns. A low-pressure system is expected to move to the northwest of the UK, bringing wetter and windier conditions to that region. Initially, the southeast will remain drier, but these wetter conditions are predicted to spread through the area early in the week. Further low-pressure systems are likely to affect the northwest, leading to continued wet and windy weather.
The warmest temperatures are expected in the South East, with London, Kent, Essex, and the South Coast all likely to experience temperatures exceeding 30 degrees Celsius. The Midlands will also see hot weather, with temperatures in the mid to high 20s. The east coast, south of Hull, is expected to reach around 24 degrees Celsius. Other regions will experience milder conditions, with Wales seeing highs of 22 degrees Celsius and coastal areas remaining cooler. Scotland and Northern Ireland are predicted to have temperatures in the high teens throughout the weekend and into the following week.
The warm spell is expected to transition into a cooler start to July. While high temperatures of 24 degrees Celsius are anticipated across the UK, most of the country is likely to experience temperatures lower than that. Despite the warm and sunny conditions, the Met Office has cautioned about the possibility of rain and even thunderstorms at times. They also noted that longer dry spells are more likely, influenced by higher pressure. There is also a chance of brief periods of very warm, potentially hot weather, as hotter air from the continent moves in, which may be accompanied by thunderstorms.
