Prince William Announces Earthshot Prize Ceremony in Brazil

Prince William has shared an important update regarding the upcoming Earthshot Prize, which he founded in 2021. This year, the prestigious awards ceremony will take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, at the Museum of Tomorrow on November 5. The announcement followed the Prince's participation in various events during London Climate Action Week, where the organizers highlighted that the selected venue reflects the Earthshot's dedication to fostering innovation, scientific progress, and future-oriented solutions.

Jason Knauf, the Chief Executive Officer of The Earthshot Prize and a close associate of Prince William, described the Museum of Tomorrow as an ideal location for the ceremony, emphasizing its mission of urgency and hope for environmental preservation. While it has been confirmed that Prince William will attend the event, the participation of the Princess of Wales remains uncertain, as she missed last year's ceremony due to health issues.

This event marks a significant milestone as it will be the first Earthshot Prize held in Latin America, reinforcing Brazil's vital role in the global climate discourse. Brazil is notable for housing a significant portion of the Amazon Rainforest and nearly 20% of the world’s biodiversity. In tandem with the Earthshot Prize, the country will also host COP30 in Belém in November, aiming to tackle pressing environmental challenges.

During London Climate Action Week, Rio de Janeiro's mayor, Eduardo Paes, and the Museum of Tomorrow's director-general, Ricardo Piquet, joined Prince William at a Leading with Impact event. They discussed the positive influence of the Earthshot Prize in transforming climate solutions into tangible outcomes. Each year, five environmental solutions are recognized with a prize of £1 million, categorized under various themes such as Protect and Restore Nature, Clean the Air, Revive the Oceans, Build a Waste-Free World, and Tackle the Climate Crisis.
