Eurostar services experienced significant disruptions, with delays of up to seven hours, following a fatality on the tracks near Lille Europe in France. The operator announced delays and cancellations for the evening services due to the incident. Passengers were advised to consider changing their travel dates.
The disruptions began shortly after 3 pm, affecting trains traveling between London St Pancras and Paris Gare du Nord. One Paris-bound train, scheduled to arrive before 6 pm, was still reportedly moving slowly through northern France at 9:45 pm. Several later departures, including the 4:01 pm, 6:01 pm, and 8:01 pm services, were canceled.
Passengers on board delayed trains expressed frustration, with some questioning compensation options. Those waiting on platforms also faced difficulties. One traveler described the concourse as chaotic, with limited food and drink options, malfunctioning air conditioning, a broken coffee machine, and issues with card payment systems. This incident marks the second fatality to impact the Eurostar route within a week, following a previous event in France.

Fatalities are tragic, but the lack of proper communication and support is appalling.

The protocols in place might be overwhelming, but they’re ensuring safety, which is the priority.

Accidents are tragic, but we should give a little grace to the Eurostar team right now.
