Southern China Grapples with Typhoon Wutip's Heavy Rainfall and Disruptions

On June 14, 2025, a citizen was observed navigating heavy rainfall in Beihai City, located in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region of southern China. In response to Typhoon Wutip, the first typhoon of the year, various Chinese authorities met on Saturday to implement preventative measures. The typhoon was anticipated to bring significant rainfall to the southern regions of the country.

Early Tuesday morning, intense thunderstorms struck parts of Guangdong Province in South China. This resulted in the issuance of red alerts for rainstorms across numerous cities. Consequently, classes were suspended. Local media reported that the storm clouds divided into two main paths. One path moved across the coastal areas, while the other impacted inland cities such as Qingyuan, Shaoguan, and Heyuan.

The storm system brought heavy rain and strong winds. Meteorological stations issued warnings about potential secondary disasters, including flooding and landslides. In Zhuhai, the local meteorological bureau reported rainfall exceeding 100 millimeters in several areas within a three-hour period. The city issued a red alert for rainstorms early Tuesday morning, while a yellow alert for thunderstorm gales remained in effect.

Local education authorities announced a full-day suspension of classes for all non-residential childcare centers, kindergartens, primary and secondary schools, vocational institutions, universities, and off-campus training centers. Neighboring Zhongshan city also experienced widespread rainfall. The Zhongshan meteorological observatory upgraded the rainstorm warning to red for numerous towns and subdistricts. All schools in Zhongshan were scheduled to suspend classes on Tuesday morning as part of emergency weather response protocols to ensure student safety.

It's good to know how schools are responding. Safety of the children is the top priority.

The schools are closed, that's nice, but what about the adults? How are businesses handling the storm? What about essential workers?

The lack of images or videos is disappointing. Where's the proof? This feels generic and impersonal.
