Responding to inquiries about the United States' trade practices, including a 10 percent baseline tariff on most countries, the suspension of higher tariffs for a 90-day period, and threats of 125% tariffs on Chinese imports, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian criticized the US' actions. He characterized the tariffs as a direct violation of international principles and a challenge to the global community.
Lin Jian stated that the US is using tariffs as a tool for pressure and self-serving gains, driven by its own interests. He argued that this approach infringes upon the rights of other nations, violates World Trade Organization rules, damages the multilateral trading system, and destabilizes the global economy.
He emphasized that China's countermeasures are necessary to protect its sovereignty, security, and development interests. These actions also aim to uphold international fairness, defend the multilateral trading system, and safeguard the interests of the international community. Lin Jian asserted that the US' actions are unpopular and will ultimately fail.
Lin Jian further stated that China does not desire a trade war, but is prepared to defend its interests. He stressed that China will not allow its legitimate rights to be compromised or the international economic rules to be undermined. Should the US persist in its tariff actions, China will respond resolutely.
Finally, Lin Jian concluded that the US' prioritization of its own interests over the global good, at the expense of other nations, will inevitably face increasing international opposition.

Lin Jian is right; no country should be bullied by another's self-serving trade policies. Solidarity is key!

China thinks it can bully other nations, but tariffs are pushing back against that mindset.
