A senior Iranian official communicated to Reuters that Tehran has reached an agreement regarding a ceasefire with Israel, which was suggested by the United States and negotiated with the help of Qatar. According to a source familiar with the negotiations, US President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance engaged in talks with Qatar following an assault by Iran on a US military installation.
The same source reported that Trump informed Qatar about Israel's concurrence with the ceasefire plan, seeking Doha's assistance in persuading Iran to comply. In a message on his platform, Trump announced that Israel and Iran have officially come to a full ceasefire arrangement, declaring the end of what he termed the "12-Day War."
Trump congratulated both parties on this significant development and noted that the ceasefire was expected to go into effect within roughly six hours, subsequent to the conclusion of their current military operations. The preliminary ceasefire duration is planned for 12 hours, wherein both sides are to hold an attitude of "peace and respect."
As outlined by Trump, Iran is tasked with initiating the ceasefire, with Israel following suit 12 hours later; this would officially culminate in the declaration of the war's termination after a full 24 hours. Despite these announcements, there has been a lack of confirmation from Israeli officials regarding the ceasefire. Notably, Iran had launched an assault on a US base in Qatar just hours prior to Trump's declaration about the ceasefire.
