A driver in Chongqing, Southwest China, has been taken into criminal detention after a fatal incident involving pedestrians. The incident occurred following a dispute over honking. The police released a statement on Sunday detailing the events.
The incident began around 8:40 pm on Saturday in Banan district. A 38-year-old man, identified as Mr. Xiong, was driving near a residential compound. His path was blocked by a vehicle unloading goods, leading him to repeatedly honk his horn. This action angered pedestrians nearby.
A confrontation ensued as several individuals surrounded Xiong's car and engaged in a heated argument with him. Xiong then attempted to drive away, striking and injuring several people who were attempting to block his vehicle.
Police were promptly called to the scene. They apprehended the driver and transported the injured to the hospital. Tragically, one of the injured individuals later died despite receiving emergency medical care. The remaining four injured individuals are currently hospitalized with injuries that are not considered life-threatening. The investigation into the case is ongoing.

It’s ridiculous how road rage can turn deadly. We must do better at educating drivers!

This incident escalated too quickly. People need to remember that honking is not always aggressive.

I feel sorry for the driver; he didn’t want this outcome. Let’s not forget that he’s suffering too.

Accidents happen, and we should look at the scenario as a whole before casting judgment.

It’s sad that a petty argument escalated to this level. Drivers need better training to handle conflicts.
