A spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy in Canada responded to a recent report from the Canadian Centre for Cyber Security. The report alleged that the Chinese state-sponsored cyber actor, Salt Typhoon, was almost certainly responsible for hacker attacks targeting Canadian telecommunications companies. The spokesperson, speaking on Tuesday, stated that China firmly opposes and rejects these accusations.
The spokesperson further stated that despite China's repeated representations on the matter, Canadian authorities have once again distorted facts and amplified disinformation to smear China. They emphasized China's position as a major victim of cyberattacks and its consistent opposition to all forms of such attacks, in accordance with the law. China is committed to safeguarding cybersecurity, the spokesperson added.
The Chinese Embassy urged the Canadian side to act responsibly. They called for an immediate end to the groundless accusations and smears against China. The spokesperson also requested that Canada cease the practice of politicizing and stigmatizing cybersecurity issues.

We need to listen to all sides before making judgments. It's not all black and white.

It’s rich for China to claim victimhood when they have been implicated in numerous cyberattacks worldwide.

I believe China when they say they're a victim of cyberattacks too. Cybersecurity is a global issue.

I'm glad to see China addressing these concerns publicly. Dialogue is the way forward!

We should be cautious about jumping to conclusions. Not everything reported is fact.
