According to a report from the semi-official Tasnim news agency, Iran's air defense systems have successfully downed two Israeli F-35 Lightning II fighter jets. The report also claims the downing of a significant number of micro aerial vehicles and the capture of a female Israeli pilot. However, this information has not been officially confirmed by the Iranian army.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have dismissed the report as unfounded. An IDF Arabic-language spokesman, Avichay Adraee, issued a statement calling the allegations "completely baseless." These conflicting reports emerge amidst escalating tensions between the two nations.
The recent exchange of claims follows large-scale strikes by Israel on Iranian military and nuclear facilities, raising concerns about a wider regional conflict. Iran's state-run Press TV reported that Iranian air defenses had also shot down an Israeli drone near the Fordow nuclear facility.
Early Friday, Israel launched airstrikes targeting Tehran and other Iranian cities. Iran's UN envoy, Amir Saeid Iravani, stated that the Israeli strikes resulted in at least 78 fatalities and 320 injuries, primarily among civilians.
Furthermore, the report alleges that several high-ranking Iranian military officials, including the Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces and the Chief Commander of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps, were killed in the Israeli airstrikes on Tehran.
In response, Israel reported that Iran launched nearly 100 missiles towards central and northern Israel in two large barrages. The Israeli report indicates significant damage and 41 injuries, with two individuals in critical condition.
