On June 18, 2025, firefighters were seen assisting flood-hit residents in Huaiji County, Guangdong Province, located in southern China. The National Development and Reform Commission announced on Wednesday that it had allocated 60 million yuan (approximately 8.36 million U.S. dollars) from China's central budget to support flood relief efforts in the province.
The allocated funds are designated for the restoration of infrastructure and public services in the areas of Guangdong that have been impacted by the severe flooding. Zhaoqing City has been identified as one of the hardest-hit areas.
By noon on Wednesday, continuous heavy rainfall had affected an estimated 300,000 residents of Huaiji County, which falls under the administration of Zhaoqing City. Local authorities reported that approximately 70,000 people had been moved to safer locations.

The government is always slow to react. How long were they aware of the impending floods?

Restoration of infrastructure? What about the people who lost their homes and livelihoods?

Positive news! It’s good to hear the government acknowledges and is assisting in the crisis.

300,000 affected and only 70,000 relocated? Seems like too little, too late.

Why is it always photos of firefighters doing the work? What about actual aid?
