On April 18, 2025, Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Sarea addressed a protest in Sanaa, Yemen, which was held against U.S. airstrikes on the Yemeni fuel port of Ras Isa and in support of Palestinians.
In a statement released on Saturday, the Houthi group declared its intention to target U.S. ships if the United States were to attack Iran. The statement, broadcast by Houthi-run al-Masirah TV, quoted Yahya Sarea as saying that the armed forces would target U.S. ships and battleships in the Red Sea if the U.S. were involved in aggression against Iran.
Sarea further stated that the group was monitoring all movements in the region and would take necessary action. He emphasized their solidarity with Iran and their opposition to the U.S. implementing its plans in the region.
This statement followed remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump, who had given Iran a two-week deadline to return to the negotiation table regarding its nuclear program.
The Houthi group, which controls a significant portion of northern Yemen, has been targeting Israel since November 2023, in a show of support for Palestinians, following the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza.

The Houthis are rightfully opposing US aggression in the region. The US needs to back off!

This is a powerful statement of defiance against American aggression. Go Houthis! Stand Strong!

The Houthis are using the Palestinian cause as a pretext for more aggression. Their actions are hurting Yemen more than helping anyone.

Another extremist group making threats, just what we need. This will all end in tears.

The Houthi statement is a clear provocation. Actions like these deserve condemnation not support.
