On Sunday, a shooting occurred during a service at a church in a Detroit suburb. A gunman opened fire, injuring one person before being fatally shot by a security guard.
According to the church's pastor, the security guard was the individual who was shot in the leg. Thankfully, no one else was harmed, in part because a church member intervened by running over the attacker with a truck. The incident took place at CrossPointe Community church in Wayne, a city with a population of approximately 17,000.
The pastor explained that the security guard had the opportunity to shoot the attacker because the attacker was initially struck by a church member driving a truck. Police identified the deceased intruder as a 31-year-old white male. Authorities urged the public to avoid the area while the investigation was ongoing.
Approximately 150 people, including children, were present at the service. The congregation's reaction to the gunfire was captured on the service's live stream. The church had established a security team about ten years prior in response to violence at other places of worship, despite not having received any specific threats.
The pastor stated that the children were doing well after the incident and that the congregation was supporting each other. He also mentioned that the church would develop a formal plan to address the aftermath of the shooting.

This is a tragic event, but I'm still disturbed by the presence of armed security in a church. It brings the violence inside.

Churches are often targets. Having a security team is a necessary precaution.

Awful situation. Why is it always churches? We need better mental health care.

Praise God for the courage of not only the security guard, but all heroes in the congregation.

Prayers for the security guard. This could have been so much worse.
