Minjee Lee secured her third major title at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, despite a final round of two-over 74. She maintained her lead throughout the day, finishing at four-under 284.
Lee began the final round with a four-stroke advantage over Jeeno Thitikul. Although she faced challenges, including bogeys on the front nine, she demonstrated resilience. Her victory came with a three-stroke margin over Auston Kim and Chanettee Wannasaen, the only other players to finish under par.
Kim and Wannasaen both carded rounds of 68, matching the best scores of the tournament. Lee's performance was marked by patience and self-control, especially given the challenging conditions throughout the week.
The tournament featured a record $US12-million purse, with Lee taking home $US1.8-million. This win marked Lee's 11th career victory and her first of the season.
Thitikul, who had led after the first two rounds, struggled on Saturday and Sunday, ultimately finishing at one over 289. Lee's lead never dropped below two strokes, and she secured her victory with key putts.
Lee's final round included birdies on the 14th and 15th holes, showcasing her skill. She was the only player with two rounds in the 60s.
Kim, starting nine strokes behind, made a strong comeback, getting within two strokes of Lee. Nelly Korda and Lexi Thompson also competed, with Thompson finishing tied for 12th and Korda tying for 19th.
