UK Set for Second Heatwave Following Brief Cool Down

New weather maps suggest the UK is heading for a second heatwave. The country experienced high temperatures in the past week, with the mercury reaching up to 30 degrees Celsius. A temporary respite from the heat is expected in the coming week, with temperatures staying in the twenties. However, the warm spell is predicted to be short-lived.

The forecast, based on MetDesk data, indicates temperatures will climb above 30 degrees Celsius. The southern regions of England are expected to experience the most intense heat. The hot weather will extend across a wide area, reaching from Middlesbrough in the north to Plymouth in the south.

The warm conditions are expected to begin around midday, with temperatures ranging from 23 to 31 degrees Celsius. The southeast and Midlands will see the highest temperatures, with London potentially reaching 31 degrees Celsius in the afternoon. By early evening, temperatures will rise further, with areas like Greater London, Essex, and Surrey reaching 33 degrees Celsius by 6 pm. The Midlands will also experience hot weather at 6 pm, with temperatures between 28 and 30 degrees Celsius. Northern England will be slightly cooler, with temperatures remaining in the twenties. The high temperatures are expected to persist through midnight before dropping in the early morning of July 2. The Met Office also anticipates "very warm weather" around July 2.

The long-range forecast from June 26 to July 5 suggests "changeable conditions" due to Atlantic low-pressure systems. These systems are expected to bring occasional rain or showers, particularly in northwestern areas, where it may also be windy. While some rain or showers are possible further south and east, longer dry periods are more likely due to higher pressure. There is also a chance of occasional very warm weather, with brief periods of hot air from the continent, potentially accompanied by thunderstorms.
