Negotiation Urged as Best Path to Resolve Iran Nuclear Threat

As President Donald Trump considers potential actions regarding Iran, experienced foreign policy figures and analysts are advocating for a negotiated resolution as the primary means of addressing the threat of Tehran developing nuclear weapons. They believe that military intervention is not a sustainable solution.

Caroline Zier, who previously held a senior position at the Pentagon under both Republican and Democratic administrations, emphasized her belief that a lasting solution to the Iranian nuclear issue cannot be achieved through military means. She stated that while military action might delay or hinder Iran's progress, a long-term resolution can only be found through diplomatic negotiations.

For the United States, a negotiated agreement would prevent involvement in another regional conflict and mitigate the risk of increased oil prices, which could contribute to inflation. Israel, on the other hand, is focused on eliminating what it perceives as an existential threat. Iran is also highly motivated to lift the severe economic sanctions currently imposed upon it.
