Several cities within Guangdong province took action on Tuesday due to the presence of severe weather conditions. These actions included the issuance of weather warnings and the implementation of closure requirements.
The coastal city of Maoming issued a yellow warning signal, indicating a Level 3 alert, for both geological hazards and meteorological risks. This warning was in effect for the subsequent 24 hours. Local authorities explained that a yellow warning signifies a high risk of geological hazards. These hazards include potential flooding, mountain torrents, mudslides, and the possibility of river and reservoir dike breaches.
In response to the warning, relevant departments in Maoming were instructed to implement specific and effective measures to prevent potential disasters. Authorities noted that geological hazards frequently occur after typhoons have passed or floodwaters have subsided. The local meteorological department also predicted that storms would persist in the city for the following day. Consequently, Maoming's education department mandated the suspension of classes in all kindergartens, schools, colleges, and universities located in the Maonan district and Binhai New Area. The city's education bureau further ordered the closure of all non-full-boarding daycare facilities, kindergartens, primary and secondary schools, vocational schools, higher education institutions, and training institutions.
In Zhongshan, the local water conservancy department initiated a Level III emergency response for flood control due to the ongoing storms and strong winds. Zhongshan's education department also directed all schools and kindergartens within the city to suspend classes.
