Honda is recalling over 259,000 vehicles in the United States due to a potential brake pedal issue. This problem could cause the brake pedal to shift from its correct position, potentially hindering a driver's ability to stop or slow the vehicle.
the 2021-2025 Acura TLX and the 2023-2025 Acura MDX.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the brake pedal pivot pin in some of these vehicles may not have been properly secured during manufacturing. This could cause the pedal to shift, potentially leading to unintended braking and increasing the risk of accidents.
Honda stated that the issue could also result in an unusual brake pedal feel, the illumination of the brake malfunction light, or the brake lights staying on even when the pedal isn't pressed.
As a solution, Honda dealers will inspect the affected vehicles and replace the brake pedal assembly if needed, at no cost to the owners. The company estimates that approximately 1% of the recalled vehicles have this problem.
Dealer notifications started on June 13, and owner notification letters are scheduled to be mailed on July 28.
Between February and June 5, the NHTSA received three warranty claims related to this issue, but no injuries were reported.
Honda began investigating the faulty brake pedal in April 2024 after receiving a report of the problem. The company determined that the improper assembly of the brake pedal pivot pin occurred at a U.S. supplier's plant, which has since closed. Production has moved to a plant in Mexico, where the supplier now uses a camera sensor to ensure the pivot pin is correctly installed.

Mistakes happen, but it’s how companies respond that counts. Honda is doing well here.

I feel safer knowing Honda is working hard to address this before it becomes a bigger issue.
