Conservative commentator Clay Travis directed Ilhan Omar, a Democratic Representative from Minnesota, to "go back to Somalia" following her critical remarks about the United States under President Donald Trump. Travis's comments were made on Sean Hannity's Fox News show.
Travis, co-founder of a sports and political commentary website, reacted with anger to footage of Omar's interview with Democracy Now!, where she stated the U.S. was becoming "one of the worst countries" under Trump. He questioned why she wouldn't return to Somalia, given her apparent dissatisfaction with the United States and her presumed dual citizenship. He drew a comparison to Rosie O'Donnell, who relocated to Ireland.
Omar's remarks were in response to Trump's actions against anti-ICE protests in Los Angeles. She referenced her upbringing in Somalia and expressed concern about the militarization of the streets and the president's actions. She called for Americans to reject the current state of the country.
This is not the first time Omar has been targeted with such comments. In 2019, Republican Senator Rand Paul offered to buy her a ticket to Somalia. Omar has long been a target for conservatives, particularly due to her criticisms of Israeli lobbying.
Travis, who identifies as a "radical moderate," claims to have been a lifelong Democrat until Trump's rise. He co-hosts a talk radio program that succeeded Rush Limbaugh's show.

Why not go back? If someone hates the U.S. so much, they shouldn't be here taking shots at it.

Omar should be held accountable for her words. We can't let politicians bash the U.S. without response!

Travis highlights the hypocrisy of those who criticize from a position of privilege. Good for him!
