The Trump administration recently disbanded an interagency working group. This group was created to develop strategies aimed at pushing Russia towards accelerating peace negotiations with Ukraine. The decision to shelve the group was confirmed by three U.S. officials.
The initiative, which was formed earlier in the spring, lost momentum in May. Participants in the group realized that President Trump was not inclined to take a more aggressive approach towards Moscow. This realization contributed to the group's eventual dissolution.
During his presidential campaign, Trump had promised to end the war in Ukraine immediately upon taking office. However, in recent months, he has expressed growing frustration over the lack of progress. He has even begun to suggest that the United States might abandon its efforts to mediate peace altogether.

I'm relieved to see this group scrapped. It seemed to lack direction from the start.

I'm supportive of Trump taking a tough stance on Russia. The old ways weren’t working anyway.

Not all diplomatic channels are beneficial. Sometimes, ending such groups is necessary to move forward.

What’s the point of having a group if it’s not effective? Let’s pivot and try something different!

Let’s face it, talking to Russia hasn’t produced results. Sometimes you need to cut your losses!
