Japan's parliament recently approved a bill amending existing legislation. The primary focus of the amendment is to specifically prohibit advertising and promotional materials that encourage users to access online casinos located outside of Japan. This move is part of a broader effort to combat offshore gambling activities.
Although numerous gambling platforms are legally established and operate outside of Japan, the act of placing bets on these sites from within the country remains a criminal offense. The updated law seeks to reinforce this prohibition.
The revised law, which amends the existing countermeasures against gambling addiction, explicitly outlaws the creation and operation of online casinos and associated applications within Japan's borders. Furthermore, it prohibits any attempts to direct users towards overseas gambling platforms, regardless of the legal status of those platforms in their respective countries of origin.

Japan should take more stringent steps to combat issues related to gambling. This is a solid start.

Regulating gambling accurately could create jobs and revenue. This ban does the opposite.
