Indonesian National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit announced the arrest of two individuals in connection with a shooting incident. The event resulted in the death of one Australian citizen and the injury of another.
The victim, 32-year-old Zivan Radmanovic, was fatally shot on Saturday. The incident occurred when two men forced entry into the villa where he was staying, located near the popular tourist destination of Canggu in Bali. Another Australian, Sanar Ghanim, sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment in Bali.
Reports from local media indicate that two individuals are being held and questioned in Singapore. Furthermore, Bali police have apprehended one of the suspects at Jakarta's Soekarno-Hatta Airport. According to AKBP Agus Bahari, the Bali Police Deputy Director of Criminal Investigation, the arrests were conducted "smoothly" without any resistance. The ABC has not yet independently verified this information.
The identities of the arrested individuals have not been released to the public. General Sigit stated that the Bali Police will provide further details. He emphasized the collaborative effort between the Indonesian criminal investigation agency, immigration authorities, and the Australian Federal Police. The Bali police spokesperson added that they collaborated with immigration officials to enhance security at Bali's exit points, including airports and harbors. In addition to the arrests, seven witnesses have been questioned.

Although tragic, arrests like this show that crimes against tourists are taken seriously in Indonesia.

The Indonesian authorities seem to lack the capability to protect tourists adequately.

The police need to do more to prevent incidents like this instead of just making arrests after the fact!

It’s important we support local law enforcement as they work through challenging situations like this.

I’m skeptical about the police’s claims of a "smooth" operation when such a tragedy has occurred.
