Televangelist Jimmy Swaggart is in critical condition following a cardiac arrest over the weekend, according to a statement from his ministry. The incident occurred around 8 a.m. Sunday at his home in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. His son, Donnie Swaggart, indicated that his father's condition is grave.
Donnie Swaggart reported that he and his brother administered chest compressions before emergency medical services arrived. Despite their efforts, Jimmy Swaggart did not regain consciousness. Emergency personnel were able to revive his heartbeat before transporting him to the hospital, where he is currently in the ICU under close medical supervision.
Jimmy Swaggart is a prominent figure in American televangelism. He established his ministry and began preaching on the radio in the early 1960s. He founded the Family Worship Center in Baton Rouge, where his family continues to preach. His ministry also operates the SonLife Broadcasting Network, which broadcasts the Family Worship Center's services.
In 1988, Jimmy Swaggart gained national attention after being photographed with a sex worker. He confessed to sinning during a live television broadcast, though he did not specify the nature of his actions. This led to his defrocking by the Assemblies of God, although he continued to preach.
Three years later, he was again found with a prostitute in Indio, California. He subsequently informed his congregation that he had received divine guidance regarding his continued television appearances.
Beyond his ministry, Jimmy Swaggart has also recorded gospel music. He is a cousin of the late rock and roll musician Jerry Lee Lewis. Swaggart spoke at Lewis' funeral, and they collaborated on a gospel album released shortly before Lewis' death.

I can't believe people would waste their prayers on a man with such a questionable history. Let him face the music.

Though he has made mistakes, he has also done a lot of good. May he find peace and healing.

It's sad he’s in the ICU, but think of all the lives he’s impacted negatively through his ministry.
