Bystander Killed in Utah "No Kings" Protest, Suspect Arrested

A bystander was fatally shot during a "No Kings" protest in Utah, according to police reports released on Sunday. The victim, identified as Arthur Folasa Ah Loo, was present at the demonstration on Saturday, which drew a crowd of approximately 10,000 individuals. Salt Lake City Police Chief Brian Redd confirmed that Ah Loo passed away later that evening.

Chief Redd stated that the victim was not the intended target of the shooting. Ah Loo, aged 39, was simply participating in the protest march. The shooting occurred when two event peacekeepers, identifiable by their neon vests, opened fire.

The peacekeepers fired after a suspect, identified as Arturo Gamboa, 24, was seen running towards the crowd with a rifle. The peacekeepers observed Gamboa pull out the rifle and raise it in a firing position before advancing towards the protesters. One of the peacekeepers discharged their weapon three times, striking both Gamboa and Ah Loo.

Gamboa sustained injuries and was found with a rifle and a gas mask in his backpack. Paramedics transported Gamboa to the hospital. Detectives subsequently booked Gamboa into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail on a murder charge.

SWAT medics provided immediate medical assistance to the victim before he was transported to a hospital, where he later died. The shooter is cooperating with the ongoing investigation. Chief Redd also mentioned that Gamboa, who did not fire any shots, has no prior criminal record.

The article is a bit vague on how the peacekeepers reacted. Was it necessary to fire? Did they warn before shooting?

The peacekeepers did the right thing in the face of danger. Let's not condemn them for protecting the others

The peacekeepers acted to prevent a massacre. It's a tragic outcome, for sure, but they did what they had to do.
