Protesters demonstrated in New York City on June 13, 2025, holding signs in opposition to Israeli strikes on Iran. The attacks, which targeted Iranian military and nuclear facilities, occurred on Friday.
The recent Israeli attacks have significantly jeopardized the ongoing discussions regarding Iran's nuclear program. These talks had commenced in April, with the United States President expressing a willingness to consider military action if diplomatic efforts proved unsuccessful.
The scheduled meeting between Iran and the United States, planned for Muscat this Sunday, has been canceled. The Omani Foreign Minister confirmed this development, emphasizing that diplomacy and dialogue remain the sole path to achieving enduring peace.
A primary point of contention leading up to the now-canceled meeting was Iran's uranium enrichment activities. The United States, Israel, and other Western nations have consistently accused Iran of pursuing nuclear weapons, a claim Iran has consistently denied.
A US administration official, speaking anonymously, stated that while the Sunday meeting would not proceed, the US remained committed to negotiations and hoped Iran would return to the table promptly.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian declared that Tehran would not participate in nuclear talks while Israel continued its attacks. In a conversation with the French President, Pezeshkian reiterated Iran's preference for diplomacy but stated that Iran would not "accept irrational demands under pressure or... sit at the negotiating table while the Zionist regime continues its attacks". The French President, in a post, urged Pezeshkian to resume negotiations quickly.
