A building under construction at the Yongbyon nuclear complex in North Korea is suspected of being designed to house advanced centrifuges for uranium enrichment, according to a Japanese expert. Yuki Kobayashi, a research fellow at the Sasakawa Peace Foundation, stated that while satellite imagery doesn't definitively confirm this, North Korea has a strong need for such a facility to support its nuclear program.
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un called for the implementation of new centrifuges in September, aiming to increase the country's nuclear weapons production. The International Atomic Energy Agency is also monitoring the construction, noting similarities to an existing uranium enrichment plant near Pyongyang.
The new building could potentially be the third uranium enrichment facility in North Korea, alongside those in Yongbyon and Kangson, and may be specifically designed for the updated centrifuge type. Satellite images released by a U.S. think tank indicate construction began in mid-December, with external completion by early June and ongoing internal work.
Kim Jong Un visited a nuclear material production base and the Nuclear Weapons Institute in September and January, though the locations were not disclosed. The state-run media unusually published pictures of centrifuge arrays at undisclosed facilities during these visits.
Following its sixth and most powerful nuclear test in September 2017, North Korea claimed to have detonated a hydrogen bomb. The need for both plutonium and highly enriched uranium for a miniaturized hydrogen bomb suggests that North Korea may be expanding its uranium enrichment capabilities.

This is alarming. We should be taking this very seriously.

How can we be sure the imagery interpretation is correct? We need confirmation from unbiased sources

If they are building it, what can we actually do about it besides write articles?

I find it highly unlikely the external construction time was all that quick. Suspect that the construction could be related to a different type of project.

It's important to keep the pressure on. Transparency is key in this situation.
