Paris St Germain is looking to the success of modern venues in Los Angeles as they begin the process of building a new stadium. CEO Victoriano Melero stated that the team is inspired by the innovative sports facilities in the United States.
PSG has outgrown its current stadium, the Parc des Princes, which has a capacity of 48,000. Team officials will spend a year evaluating potential locations in Massy and Poissy. The goal is to create a venue that offers a wide range of entertainment options.
Melero highlighted SoFi Stadium as an example of the type of facility PSG is aiming for. He emphasized the desire to diversify revenue streams by creating a space that goes beyond just sports. SoFi Stadium, which opened in 2020, is home to NFL teams and hosts major concerts.
The team is considering Massy and Poissy as potential sites for the new stadium. While the new stadium is under construction, PSG will continue to play at Parc des Princes.
The French consul-general in Los Angeles noted the significant role U.S. fans and investors have played in the club's success. He described PSG as a "unicorn" with American influence. The team has an estimated five million fans in the U.S. and has benefited from its partnership with the Air Jordan brand.
Arctos Partners, based in the U.S., holds a portion of the team's shares, with the majority ownership held by Qatar Sports Investments. Melero expressed the team's growing ambitions, emphasizing their focus on the future.
