South Korean President Lee Jae-myung Set for G7 Summit Talks

President Lee Jae-myung of South Korea is preparing to engage in bilateral discussions with various leaders at the upcoming G7 summit in Canada. His office has indicated that the scheduling of these meetings is currently underway, and he is set to depart for the summit on Monday, as shared by National Security Adviser Wi Sung-lac during a briefing.

Seoul is also considering trilateral discussions with the United States and Japan, aiming to tackle ongoing economic matters, particularly tariffs that impact critical industries in South Korea, such as semiconductors, automobiles, and shipbuilding. Wi highlighted the importance of meeting with leaders from the US and Japan to seek solutions for these pressing trade concerns.

Additionally, President Lee is preparing for the possibility of engaging with Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, should he be present at the summit. This trip will be significant for Lee as it represents his first diplomatic venture after being elected to office, following the removal of former President Yoon Suk Yeol over a controversial short-lived martial law declaration. Throughout the summit, Lee intends to meet with representatives from several key nations before and after the main event, although specific countries have not been disclosed.
