A family of five, captured in a selfie, radiated joy as they prepared for takeoff. Tragically, moments later, the Air India flight 171 crashed, claiming the lives of over 200 passengers, including the family.
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner plummeted shortly after takeoff, resulting in the deaths of 241 people, including more than 50 Britons. The crash occurred near Ahmedabad Airport, impacting a densely populated residential area. Only one passenger survived the flight bound for Gatwick, leaving countless families devastated.
Details of the victims are still emerging as authorities work to identify the remains and inform loved ones. Among the victims was a grieving husband whose two daughters were left orphaned. He was traveling to India to scatter his late wife's ashes.
Another victim was the brother of the sole survivor. The survivor, a British national, miraculously walked away with minor injuries. His brother was also on the flight and is presumed dead.
A radiologist at the Royal Derby Hospital, Dr. Prateek Joshi, was on the flight with his family. They had sent a selfie to loved ones, their faces reflecting their excitement. His wife had recently left her job to join him in London.
Also among the passengers was Raxa Modha, who was returning to England for a memorial service for her late husband, along with her two-year-old grandson. Tributes have poured in for the family, who were based in Wellingborough.
Akeel Nanabawa, his wife Hannaa Vorajee, and their four-year-old daughter, Sara, were also identified as victims. They were known for their charity work and generosity.
A British couple who ran a spiritual wellness company were also among the victims. They were returning home after a wellness retreat.
A British family of four, including Javed Ali Syed, his wife Mariam, and their young children, were also onboard the flight. Mrs. Syed worked at Harrods, and Mr. Syed was a hotel manager.
