A business administration student, Bhoomi Chauhan, has described her experience of missing the Air India flight that tragically crashed, resulting in the deaths of 241 people. The 28-year-old was en route to the airport when a traffic jam caused her to arrive just ten minutes after the boarding process had begun.
Ms. Chauhan recounted her frustration at being denied boarding by airport staff. She and her travel companions left the airport, disappointed and seeking a refund for their tickets. While discussing the matter with their travel agent, she received a phone call informing her of the plane crash. She described her survival as a "miracle."
The Air India flight crashed shortly after takeoff, plummeting into a residential area near Ahmedabad airport. Among the passengers were over 50 Britons. The sole survivor is believed to be a British national, Vishwash Kumar Ramesh. Ms. Chauhan had traveled from Ankleshwar, approximately 125 miles south of Ahmedabad, and arrived at the airport at 12:20 pm local time.
Upon learning of the crash, Ms. Chauhan reported feeling "totally numb." Her mother attributed her survival to divine intervention, expressing gratitude for the protection of the Mother Goddess.
The investigation into the crash is underway, with India's civil aviation minister confirming the discovery of a black box. The flight data recorder is expected to provide crucial information about the cause of the crash, which occurred less than a minute after takeoff. The inquiry is being led by India's Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau, with assistance from teams from the US and UK. The aircraft carried 169 Indian nationals, 53 Britons, seven Portuguese nationals, and one Canadian.
