Large-scale protests are anticipated across the United States on Saturday, coinciding with President Donald Trump's military parade in Washington D.C. The parade, featuring thousands of soldiers, tanks, and warplanes, is intended to commemorate the Army's 250th anniversary, which also aligns with the president's birthday.
These demonstrations, dubbed "No Kings" protests, are planned in all 50 states, with over 2,000 events scheduled. The protests are a direct response to the Trump administration and its policies, including the mass deportation of immigrants. Notably, no protests are planned in Washington, D.C.
The organizers of the protests have expressed their opposition to the Trump administration, citing concerns about the administration's actions. Ezra Levin, co-founder of the anti-Trump organization Indivisible, described Saturday as a crucial moment. He emphasized the importance of sending a message about the reassertion of democracy, directed not at Trump himself, but at those within the government who are deciding how to act.
The protests were already in development before recent demonstrations against ICE raids in Los Angeles and other cities. Trump's response to those protests, including the deployment of National Guard troops and Marines, has further fueled the momentum of Saturday's events. California Governor Gavin Newsom criticized the move as an abuse of power.
When asked about the "No Kings" protests, Trump stated that he does not feel like a king and that he faces challenges in getting things approved.
