Musk's Exit Doesn't End Weekly Email Mandate for Federal Employees

Following Elon Musk's departure from his role, federal employees are still required to submit weekly emails detailing their activities. This policy, initiated during Musk's tenure, mandates that employees report on their accomplishments over the preceding seven days.

Musk, who previously held a position within the Department of Government Efficiency, had proposed this email requirement, even suggesting potential termination for non-compliance. While some officials within the Trump administration expressed reservations about the policy, it has persisted despite Musk's exit.

Employees at various agencies, including the Office of Personnel Management and NOAA, are still expected to send these emails. One Social Security employee noted that they have never received a response to their submissions.

White House representatives have defended the practice, citing its role in streamlining operations and enhancing service delivery. The Office of Personnel Management also supports the policy, emphasizing its importance for accountability and transparency.

Despite the ongoing requirement, some employees have stopped sending the emails, citing a lack of assigned work. The government maintains its commitment to eliminating waste and improving efficiency.

During his time in the role, Musk oversaw significant changes, including reductions in various government agencies and workforces. He later criticized Trump's domestic spending legislation and made controversial statements about the former president. Musk has since apologized for some of his remarks.
