The initial moments following takeoff are frequently the most demanding in aviation. Pilots undergo extensive training to manage these critical phases, according to air safety experts. This statement was made on Friday, following an Air India crash.
Air India flight AI171 crashed into a residential area shortly after departing from Ahmedabad airport in Gujarat, India. The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner was scheduled to fly to London, carrying 242 people.
Reports indicate that only one passenger survived the crash. Tragically, the casualties on the ground included students residing in a medical hostel.
Although the precise sequence of events will be revealed after a comprehensive investigation, aviation observers pointed out that the passenger jet, piloted by two experienced individuals with over 9,000 combined flying hours, issued a frantic mayday call just moments after liftoff.
Aviation safety consultant Michael Daniel stated that this is a rare occurrence, as takeoff and landing are crucial phases of flight where pilots receive intensive training. He added that the pilot's mayday call was made, but the reasons remain unknown. This information will be available once the flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder are analyzed.
