Singapore Airlines (SIA) and its budget airline Scoot are planning to increase their flight schedules and introduce new destinations. This move comes after Jetstar Asia announced it would be ceasing operations at the end of July.
An SIA representative confirmed that the expansion, pending regulatory approval, will begin in August. The departure of Jetstar Asia will result in the cancellation of flights on 16 routes. Four routes originating from Singapore, specifically Broome (Australia), Labuan Bajo (Indonesia), Okinawa (Japan), and Wuxi (China), will be directly impacted as they are solely served by Jetstar Asia.
Scoot intends to fill some of the gaps. They are preparing to offer up to four weekly flights to Okinawa and twice-weekly flights to Labuan Bajo during the upcoming northern winter season, which spans from late October to late March. Additionally, Scoot is planning to initiate daily flights to Medan, Indonesia.
The specific flight schedules will be released later, contingent upon regulatory approvals and coordination with the group's airline partners. The SIA Group stated that they are continuously assessing the demand for air travel and will adjust their network and capacity accordingly.
