Survivor Emerges from Air India Plane Crash Amid Tragedy

Ramesh Viswashkumar, who is the sole survivor of the tragic Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad, was seated next to an emergency exit on the London-bound flight. According to police reports, he successfully jumped out of the aircraft, which tragically took the lives of 242 individuals onboard. Dr. Dhaval Gameti, who provided medical attention to Viswashkumar at Ahmedabad's Civil Hospital, noted that despite his multiple injuries, he is currently out of danger.

In a conversation with Indian media from his hospital bed, the 40-year-old identified himself as a British citizen of Indian heritage, traveling to Britain with his brother after visiting family in India. Describing the aftermath of the crash, he shared, “When I got up, there were bodies all around me. I was scared. I stood up and ran," detailing how he was rescued and brought to the hospital. There are uncertainties regarding whether he jumped out of the plane before impact or after it had crashed, but he recounted that the aircraft started to descend immediately after takeoff and, moments later, split in two.

Social media footage aired by Indian news networks depicted Viswashkumar limping down a street, showing signs of trauma with bloodstained clothing. Witnesses gathered around him, inquiring about other passengers, to which he somberly responded that they were still inside the wreckage. His boarding pass revealed that he had been seated in seat 11A, while his brother Ajay was in a different section of the plane, leading Ramesh to search for him amidst the chaos.

Family members in Britain have confirmed that Ramesh survived, but they have not received any updates about Ajay. Viswashkumar is married and has a young son, and his family expressed their distress over the crash. His younger brother, Nayan Kumar Ramesh, shared the chilling moment Ramesh called their father shortly after the disaster, expressing disbelief at his survival and fear for his brother's whereabouts. The crash, occurring in a densely populated area, marks a devastating event in aviation history, resulting in significant loss of life, including individuals on the ground. While Ramesh is currently the only identified survivor, police state that ongoing rescue efforts may reveal more individuals who may have survived the impact.
