The Singapore Airlines (SIA) Group is offering employment opportunities to staff members affected by the closure of Jetstar Asia. The group is actively working with Jetstar Asia to explore available positions. This initiative comes in response to the airline's impending cessation of operations.
The SIA Group is creating various opportunities within its airlines, including roles for approximately 100 pilots and 200 cabin crew. The goal is to assist as many affected employees as possible in continuing their careers within the aviation industry. The group acknowledges the uncertainty this situation presents and is committed to providing support to facilitate a smooth recruitment and onboarding process.
Representatives from SIA and Scoot will be available at Jetstar Asia's office to meet with interested employees and provide details about available positions. The SIA Group values the experience of Jetstar Asia employees and anticipates welcoming successful candidates.
The closure of Jetstar Asia, a Singapore-based budget airline, was announced by Australia's Qantas. The airline will continue operating flights for the next seven weeks before ceasing operations at the end of July.
Jetstar Asia employees have expressed surprise at the closure, while also acknowledging the support provided by the company, including severance packages and assistance with job searching. The retrenched staff will receive compensation based on their years of service, along with additional bonuses and continued access to staff travel benefits.
The National Trades Union Congress (NTUC), in collaboration with the Singapore Manual and Mercantile Workers' Union (SMMWU), is also providing support to affected staff. This includes job placement assistance and career advisory services, particularly within the aviation and aerospace sectors. The NTUC and its Employment and Employability Institute (e2i) will offer career coaching, skills upgrading, and employability assistance at Changi Airport Terminal 1.
