On Thursday, numerous major tech platforms experienced a widespread outage, impacting services from Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, OpenAI, and Spotify. Reports of issues surged, notably on Downdetector.com, around 2 p.m. EST, reaching a peak at 2:30 p.m. before starting to decline.
Cloudflare, a key service provider to some of the affected companies, released a statement indicating that many of its services were encountering intermittent failures and that they were actively investigating the situation. The company noted that by 3:12 p.m., certain services were beginning to recover, although users might continue to face intermittent errors as the system worked to resolve the issues.
According to a spokesperson from Google Cloud, the outage originated from issues with their cloud services. They confirmed that a limited number of Cloudflare’s services that depend on Google Cloud were affected, assuring users that core Cloudflare services remained operational. Google Cloud began experiencing disruptions at 2:46 p.m., accumulating over 13,000 outage reports on Downdetector.com. By 3:30 p.m., the company announced that most of their services were recovering and anticipated full functionality shortly thereafter.
