Chinese Premier Li Qiang Advocates for Innovation-Driven Development at State Council Session

On June 9, 2025, Premier Li Qiang led a study session with the State Council, where he underscored the critical need to overcome obstacles in the conversion of scientific and technological innovations into practical applications, which is essential for promoting development driven by innovation. Li, along with his fellow vice premiers, Zhang Guoqing and Liu Guozhong, articulated that transforming these innovations is key to connecting the chains of innovation and industry—a process often referred to as the "last mile" of technological innovation.

Li pointed out that this transformation is vital for generating new products, industries, and growth drivers, ultimately contributing to the evolution of advanced productive forces. He stressed the importance of effectively coordinating various innovation resources and emphasized the need for reforms in institutional frameworks to streamline the alignment between supply and demand.
