China Rejects Accusations of Destabilizing Actions in East and South China Seas

Regarding inquiries about the meetings and joint statements from the defense ministers of the US, Japan, and Australia, as well as the US, Japan, Australia, and the Philippines, during the Shangri-La Dialogue, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson responded. The statements expressed "serious concern about China's destabilizing actions" in the East China Sea and the South China Sea, and condemned any attempts to alter the status quo through force or coercion.

The spokesperson, Lin Jian, stated that the US, in collaboration with Japan, Australia, and the Philippines, had been exaggerating the so-called "China threat" during the dialogue. He accused them of using issues related to the East China Sea and South China Sea to create division and encourage confrontation among regional nations. China expressed strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition to these actions, and lodged formal protests.

Lin emphasized that engaging in bloc politics and camp-based confrontation reflects a Cold War mentality. He stated that such actions are out of step with current trends, are not welcomed in the region, and will not resolve any issues. He also asserted that these actions would not intimidate China.

Lin reiterated China's unwavering commitment to protecting its territorial sovereignty and maritime rights and interests. He called on the US and its allies to cease misrepresenting and distorting facts related to maritime issues. He urged them to stop making false accusations, forming exclusive groups, and undermining efforts to resolve issues through dialogue and consultation, and to instead work towards maintaining regional peace and stability.
