During the 22nd Shangri-La Dialogue held on Sunday, Philippine Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro made critical statements regarding China's actions in the South China Sea.
In response to Teodoro's remarks, Major General Meng Xiangqing, representing the delegation of the Chinese People's Liberation Army National Defence University, strongly refuted the accusations. Meng characterized Teodoro's statements as baseless attacks that disregarded established facts.
Meng further stated that the remarks were designed to mislead the public, incite confrontation, and sow discord. He also accused Teodoro of distorting the truth. Meng emphasized that such statements contradict the prevailing regional trend of peace and stability.
Meng concluded by asserting that the statements were out of alignment with the widespread desire of nations to remain independent, pursue peace, development, dialogue, and cooperation. He declared China's firm opposition and categorical rejection of the Philippine Defense Secretary's statements.

The South China Sea shouldn't be a battleground for political posturing. Teodoro should know better.

Peace is vital, but we shouldn’t ignore provocations. Teodoro is advocating for our right to defend ourselves.
