A spokesperson from the mainland has strongly condemned the recent decision by Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) to alter the demographic data on the island. The DPP authorities removed the term "Han" from the population description, replacing it with "other." This change has generated significant criticism within Taiwan. Critics accuse the DPP, under the leadership of Lai Ching-te, of furthering "de-sinicization" efforts and attempting to erase ancestral heritage.
The spokesperson characterized the move as "utterly absurd and laughable." He questioned how those within the DPP, particularly those belonging to the "other populations," could face their ancestors with any sense of honor. He stressed the shared ancestry, culture, and history between people on both sides of the Taiwan Straits.
The spokesperson asserted that all individuals are part of the Chinese nation, descendants of the Yellow Emperor and the Yan Emperor. He emphasized that this shared identity is an undeniable fact. He accused the DPP of manipulating identity for political purposes, claiming their actions are driven by a separatist agenda. He stated that these actions, aimed at pushing de-sinicization and severing historical and cultural ties, are against the will of the people and will ultimately fail.
The controversy has reignited discussions in Taiwan regarding identity, heritage, and the politicization of history. These discussions are occurring amidst increasingly strained relations across the Straits.

Let's not forget our proud history as descendants of the Yellow Emperor. It should be celebrated.
