providing food to the people of Gaza. Rev. Johnnie Moore, the executive chairman, stated that the mission is solely focused on ensuring that hungry Gazans receive food, independent of any political affiliations. He took over leadership shortly after the aid group began its distribution efforts.
Even before GHF began distributing aid, the group faced criticism, including from the United Nations. Critics argued that the U.N. already had the infrastructure to distribute aid. However, Moore believes GHF is addressing the issue of Hamas allegedly stealing aid, a problem the U.N. has not solved. He encourages critics to join the effort to deliver food to Gaza.
Moore also noted that Gazans have expressed gratitude for the support, including thanking President Donald Trump. This is attributed to a promise made by the former president in the Oval Office regarding addressing the issue of Hamas' treatment of Gazans concerning humanitarian aid.
The U.S. and Israel have repeatedly stated that GHF is the best way to distribute aid to Gazans and prevent Hamas from obtaining it. Moore believes that humanitarian aid officials have faced a "false choice" for years between Hamas and the people of Gaza. He asserts that aid can be delivered without facing these dilemmas.
A U.N. spokesperson acknowledged instances of trucks carrying food being offloaded by hungry civilians and looting by armed gangs. The spokesperson emphasized the need for more essential supplies to be allowed into Gaza through multiple crossings and routes to meet humanitarian needs and reduce looting.
In late May, the Israeli U.N. Ambassador revealed that the international institution was using tactics against NGOs that were open to working with GHF. The U.N. removed several NGOs from a shared aid database. Following this, the U.S. vetoed a U.N. Security Council resolution calling for a ceasefire in Gaza, which the ambassador said would have undermined aid efforts. Just before the veto, the U.S. urged the U.N. to support GHF.
