Amidst ongoing unrest in Los Angeles, coinciding with the 13th anniversary of DACA, Democratic Representative Delia Ramirez of Illinois addressed a press conference. She leveled accusations against former President Donald Trump, alleging a "campaign of terror" targeting undocumented immigrants.
DACA, or Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, is a U.S. immigration policy that provides temporary protection from deportation for eligible immigrants who arrived in the country as children.
Speaking near the Capitol building, Ramirez specifically accused Trump, along with figures like Tom Homan and Stephen Miller, of singling out individuals deemed "undesirable." She also voiced a conspiracy theory that the former president would extend these tactics to target U.S. citizens.
Ramirez further stated that the former administration had waged a "campaign of terror" against immigrants, their families, and loved ones, accusing them of advancing a "fascist agenda." She called for an end to what she described as terror tactics, advocating against bans, walls, raids, and the use of masked agents and military forces.
The city of Los Angeles has been experiencing significant unrest, including riots and clashes with law enforcement, sparked by immigration enforcement operations conducted by ICE. In response, Trump deployed federalized National Guard troops and Marines to assist in maintaining order. This action has drawn criticism from Democrats.
Ramirez asserted that the tactics used against immigrants could be applied to anyone the former administration deemed undesirable, emphasizing the need to support DACA recipients, their families, and various other groups targeted by the administration.
Despite Ramirez's claims, federal immigration authorities have released details of criminal charges against individuals arrested by ICE. This week, ICE provided information on charges against those arrested in Los Angeles during the ongoing unrest.
