Urgent Recall of Paracetamol Tablets Due to Contamination Concerns

In a significant health alert, Britons are being urged to verify the safety of their paracetamol medications. The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has issued a recall notice following the identification of discolored pills in two specific batches of 500mg paracetamol tablets produced by Chelonia Healthcare Limited.

The problematic batch 2312010 was flagged as containing discolored tablets, leading the MHRA to also include batch 2312011 in the recall as a safety precaution during the ongoing investigation. Both batches are set to expire in November 2027 and had been distributed to pharmacies earlier this year.

Healthcare professionals have been instructed to cease distribution of these batches immediately and quarantine all remaining stock for return to suppliers. The MHRA has advised patients and caregivers to check their supplies for the affected medications, which are only available via prescription, and to look for the batch number on their containers and outer cartons.

Patients who note any discoloration on their paracetamol tablets, described as white capsule-shaped and scored on one side, should immediately consult their pharmacist or the healthcare provider who prescribed them. Additionally, individuals who have taken the affected medication and are experiencing adverse reactions are encouraged to seek medical help and report their experiences through the MHRA Yellow Card scheme.
