Israeli-Palestinian Conflict

Journalist Shot, Aid Ship Intercepted, Sanctions Imposed, and Protests Amidst Ongoing Conflicts

A 9 News Australia reporter, Lauren Tomasi, was struck in the leg by a rubber bullet fired by an LAPD officer. The officer appeared to be directly targeting her while she was reporting on the confrontations between anti-ICE protesters and law enforcement.

The Freedom Flotilla Coalition reported that Israeli naval forces intercepted the Gaza-bound aid ship Madleen in international waters, and "kidnapped" the activists on board. The 18-meter vessel had departed from Sicily on June 1st, carrying 12 people, including activists and a journalist, as part of a mission to break the Israeli blockade and deliver aid to Gaza.

Protesters, including Israeli Jews and Palestinian citizens of Israel, marched towards Gaza to protest the ongoing conflict. They demanded an end to the killing and starvation of civilians in the besieged enclave. The demonstrators also called for a deal with Hamas to secure the release of all captives.

The United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Norway jointly sanctioned Israeli far-right ministers Itamar Ben-Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich. The sanctions, announced on June 10th, included travel bans and asset freezes, and were based on their inflammatory rhetoric and role in inciting violence against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank. Israel condemned the decision.

The 'Soumoud' convoy is currently in Libya, en route to Gaza's border. The convoy plans to join the Global March to Gaza on June 15th at the Rafah border crossing, with the goal of negotiating the opening of the border with Egyptian authorities and breaking Israel's siege on the Palestinian enclave.

During a visit to a military base in North Carolina on June 10th, Donald Trump defended his decision to deploy US military personnel against anti-ICE protesters in Los Angeles. He labeled the protesters as "insurrectionists" and criticized California Governor Gavin Newsom and LA Mayor Karen Bass.
