President Trump's approach to protests has varied significantly depending on their ideological alignment. In events like the deadly march in Charlottesville in 2017 and the Capitol insurrection on January 6, 2021, he has often minimized the violence, framing the actions of the protesters as noble and asserting they have faced unfair treatment.
Conversely, when protests arise from what he perceives as leftist sentiments, Trump frequently advocates for severe measures from law enforcement and military forces. Just recently, he ordered the deployment of 2,000 National Guard troops to Los Angeles to manage protests concerning his immigration enforcement policies. This decision was further bolstered by his subsequent orders to send an additional 700 Marines and another 2,000 National Guard personnel later the same day.
Despite the largely peaceful nature of these protests, which were confined to specific areas, Trump took to social media to cast the demonstrators as "insurrectionist mobs" and claimed that Los Angeles was being "invaded and occupied by Illegal Aliens and Criminals.
