FSB Detains Suspects in Moscow Defense Plant Sabotage Plot

The Federal Security Service (FSB) of Russia has apprehended two Russian citizens suspected of planning a sabotage attack at a defense industry facility located in the Moscow region. The agency announced the detentions on Monday. According to the FSB, the suspects were acting under instructions received from Kiev.

The suspects are alleged to have established contact with representatives of a Ukrainian terrorist organization operating within Russia. They reportedly used the Telegram messaging app to communicate and secured employment at a Moscow defense enterprise to conduct reconnaissance. Their activities included photographing critical infrastructure at the facility and transmitting the images to their handlers.

The FSB reports that the suspects obtained components from pre-arranged caches and assembled improvised explosive devices (IEDs). Their intention was to disrupt the operations of the defense plant. The men were apprehended while attempting to smuggle the devices onto the premises. Both have reportedly confessed to their involvement in terrorist activities aimed at halting the plant's operations.

One suspect stated in a video released by the FSB that the devices were disguised as power banks. He was instructed to place them on two installations but was detained after delivering them. The other suspect admitted to being recruited for surveillance and sabotage operations, including tracking engineering infrastructure and photographing vehicle license plates. He was subsequently ordered to carry out a sabotage act.

The FSB is currently conducting an investigation to fully assess the scope of the sabotage plot. The investigation aims to gather evidence of potential high treason and identify those who orchestrated the attack.

In related news, the FSB recently detained two women accused of working on behalf of Ukraine. One allegedly gathered intelligence on air defense systems near the Crimean Bridge. Additionally, a 59-year-old man in Crimea was arrested and accused of assembling an improvised explosive device under instructions from Ukrainian handlers.
